Jesus Christ is himself the source of ministry in the Church as he instituted the Church and in so doing established a variety of offices which aim at the good of the whole body. All ecclesial ministry is characterized by service and governed by those appointed to be the Shepherds after the heart of  Christ.

The lay faithful have a special vocation to seek the Kingdom of God by engaging in the temporal affairs and directing them according to God’s will. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church says beautifully, “The laity are marvelously called and prepared so that even richer fruits of the Spirit may be produced in them. For all their works, prayers and apostolic undertakings, family and married life, daily work, relaxation of mind and body…all of these become spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”

But also for the good of the Church, the laity can be called to use their gifts for the service of the Church in its many different ministerial needs, especially those connected to the celebration of the Eucharist and those related to apostolic outreach. Explore these ministries here.

But those who feel so called must have that call verified and accepted by the Church for the good of the whole. The parish priests are always happy to talk to anyone who is interested in serving in these ministries, so that all the necessary requirements for ministry are met and formation for the ministry takes place.
