With this being only the second Day of Lent, all of us are still in the resolve to deny ourselves in order to identify in some way with the sufferings of Christ.
In the first reading for today, the familiar words of Moses are heard as he says, I set before you life and prosperity, death and doom. Moses’ suggestion is to choose life by loving the Lord, heeding His voice, and holding fast to him. And in Luke’s Gospel, he reminds us that in order to follow Jesus, we must deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow him.
