The Gospel passage from St. Matthew says that if we do not listen to Jesus’ words and act on them, we are like a fool who built his house on sand. The first reading from Isaiah tells us that the Lord is an eternal Rock and we are to trust in him forever.
Let us pray that each day we will not only hear Jesus’ words but act on them, loving our neighbor and loving God above all who is our Rock so that our house will never be built on sand.
The only way we can do this is to seek Jesus’ face in each person we meet. Today, look for Jesus in the most inopportune places: perhaps recognize the beggar at the intersection and give him a donation, or at the very least a smile; or in the domestic church of your home, compliment one of your children, your wife, or another occupant for always being present to you and aware of your needs; or listen for and follow the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to go beyond yourself as you safeguard the permanence of your home.
Lord, help me to build my house not on sand but on You as I live and act on Your words, my Rock.
