When we listen to the Gospel today (Mt 15:29-37) we might focus on the Multiplication of the Loaves and Fishes. We might miss what comes before that: Jesus heals “…the lame, the blind, the deformed, the mute, and many others.” Jesus is eager to heal us of our brokenness. When we then reflect on the Multiplication of the Loaves and Fishes, we appreciate God’s abundance (7 baskets full of left overs). We also appreciate the words of Jesus, “My heart is moved with pity for the crowd, for they have been with me now for three days and have nothing to eat.” God desires to heal our brokenness and to satisfy our deepest needs.
Let us pray: Dear God, before the words are on our lips, you know our needs, and you desire to heal us and to satisfy our deepest needs. May I come before you, aware of my needs. May I accept your abundant love, shown most especially through the gift of your Son, Jesus Christ.
Action: Make someone’s day brighter today (call, write, visit, …).
