REFLECT:
Then one of the Twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, “What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?” They paid him thirty pieces of silver, and from that time on he looked for an opportunity to hand him over. (Matthew 26:14-16)
Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday. Did you know that the Wednesday of Holy Week has its own moniker? Spy Wednesday. The “spy” in “Spy Wednesday” is, of course, Judas.
Now, we may never be in Judas’ position to betray Jesus so dramatically. But all of us betray Jesus in our own—even small—ways when we turn away from Him and sin.
Don’t despair though. Saints and sinners alike have fallen from grace (just remember St. Peter and his denial of Jesus three times over), and members of both groups have a pathway to redemption. How? Repent and seek His grace, and God is always ready to forgive, waiting with open arms to welcome us back.
PRAY:
Heavenly Father, as we journey through Holy Week, remind us that even when we choose sin, You choose us. Help us to turn back and stay close to you. Amen.
ACT:
“Look for an opportunity” to share your faith with someone.
